Limassol police carried out dozens of checks on Tuesday night after yet another delivery driver was attacked by ten hooded individuals on Monday night.

Dozens of checks aimed at “tackling juvenile delinquency” were carried out by officers in various areas of the city.

At 10 pm, police reportedly observed two individuals parking a motorcycle that lacked registration plates, both fleeing on foot as soon as they spotted the officers.

The 14-year-old was later arrested after attempting to return to the motorcycle two had left behind. A subsequent investigation confirmed that the vehicle was reported stolen on May 10.

Police later found a bag in his possession containing a hood, matching the description of the one worn by the passenger seen earlier on the stolen motorcycle.

He was taken to the police station, where his parents, a juvenile probation officer and a lawyer were summoned. An arrest warrant was subsequently issued, and he was taken into custody to assist with the investigation.

Another teenager was arrested on the Paphos-Limassol highway near Ypsonas at 10:40pm after attempting to flee from officers that spotted him driving in the opposite lane during their patrol in a village in the Limassol district.

When they signalled the driver to stop for a check, he sped off and fled. During the chase, he reportedly committed several traffic offences.

An inspection of his car revealed two bats and a hood inside the vehicle which were seized as evidence.

The 19-year-old was arrested and taken into custody to assist with the investigation.

In total, 26 vehicles and 44 individuals were checked during Tuesday’s operation.

Police said that alcohol tests conducted on 42 drivers, resulted in four violations, while ten drivers were cited for traffic offences.

On Monday night, a 34-year-old food delivery driver was assaulted in Limassol when an unknown person approximately 20 years of age approached the delivery driver in Kato Polemidia, claiming he was the recipient of the order.

Then another eight to ten people wearing hoods appeared and started beating the driver, stealing his waist pack, containing a mobile phone, cash, personal documents and other items.

This attack marks yet another violent incident of attacks on delivery drivers that have been going on since 2024. In November 2024, a total of 22 people had been assaulted, this year several similar incidents were reported, inevitably raising concerns about the safety of delivery driversin Cyprus.
