On June 5, Telethon Cyprus honours the memory and work of the late Stelios Pissis with a special concert at the Nicosia Municipal Theatre, titled Stelios Pissis – Symphony of Life. The event is held under the auspices of President Nikos Christodoulides, and is organised in collaboration with the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra Foundation and the Stelios Pissis Music Foundation.
Pissis was a unique creator. Though bedridden for many years due to muscular dystrophy, he still created music. With inner strength and an admirable artistic expression, he composed works inspired by life, humanity, faith, love and transcendence. This concert is a tribute to an artist who transformed the silence of disability into the voice of the soul.
On stage, the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra and the ARIS Limassol Choir will join forces with Pantelis Thalassinos, Dimitris Fanis and Sofia Patsalidou for a musical journey through the composer’s most iconic symphonic and song-based works – pieces that bear the mark of the sensitivity and humanity that defined him.
George Kountouris will conduct the concert, with George Karvellos responsible for orchestration and Solon Kladas directing the choir. The evening will be presented by George Tsiakkas and Christina Pavlidou, who also directs the production. The concert promises to be an evening full of emotion, depth and strength – a musical offering of love and recognition.
All proceeds will go to Telethon Cyprus, which for 31 consecutive years has supported people with neuromuscular and genetic diseases, funded research programmes at the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics, and fostered a spirit of social contribution.
