The bathing waters in the Lady’s Mile area will be observed through a new water quality monitoring programme implemented by the environmental department and the British bases.
Under the new plan, water sampling will take place weekly instead of monthly, and the number of checkpoints will increase throughout the swimming season.
Authorities say the goal of their newly launched initiative was to help the public feel safer, as the area will now be monitored more closely.
The announcement comes after the bases had issued a warning against swimming at Lady’s Mile beach over suspected E. coli contamination last week, prompting the environmental department to conduct further tests, which found the water to be safe.
Despite these findings, the bases reiterated their warning, citing potential differences in testing methods, locations or timing. The area had finally been declared safe for swimming by the bases on Thursday.
