More than a thousand people have added their fan cards to the government’s digital citizen app since its integration to promote sports safety was launched on Monday, government spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis announced on Tuesday.
Letymbiotis said the fan card plays a key role in upgrading safety at sports venues, and that adding it to the digital citizen app is a simple and straightforward process.
Under the new system, Cypriots over the age of 18 can only issue or renew their fan card through the digital citizen app. The app will also be used to verify each cardholder’s identity and confirm their right to enter sports venues through a scannable QR code.
The system, he added, will ensure the authenticity of the fan card and confirm the holder’s details, preventing forgery or use by unauthorised individuals.
“This is a measure that is part of, as the president of the Republic himself has stated, a holistic approach that the government is implementing to create a safe and modern sports environment,” he added.
To access digital citizen, users must have a verified CY Login profile with two-factor authentication. So far, 440,000 have completed the verification process.
