A fire that broke out in a single house between Arediou and Malounta villages in the Nicosia district on Wednesday has been brought under control, leaving five metal buildings destroyed.

“The fire appears to have started during the residents’ attempt to prepare food on the stove, as the house was constructed of metal beams and polyurethane panels, which due to the nature of the materials, the fire spread rapidly,” fire department spokesman Andreas Kettis said in a post on X.

Kettis said the residents suffered minor burns and were provided with first aid at the scene.

He added that an acetylene cylinder was found on the premises, which was handled accordingly by members of the fire department.
