Workers at the cooperative growers marketing union Sedigep in Lysi, decided on Friday to stage two-hour work stoppages on June 14 and 18, to protest their employer’s failure to pay contributions to their provident funds for a second month running.
The work stoppages will be held from 11am till 1pm on June 14 and 8am till 10am on June 18.
Trade union Peo said the workers had no choice but to strike, after the labour ministry declared a “blatant violation of the collective agreement”.
Sedigep, a major packing and exporting organisation in Cyprus for agricultural products, “can protect its interests in any legitimate manner”, Peo added.
The labour ministry is also currently handling a second violation of the collective agreement, regarding “the annual pay rises that should have been given in January 2025”, Peo said.
