160 young musicians are preparing to take the stage of the Nicosia Municipal Theatre this month from Cyprus and beyond. The occasion is the concert Bailando al Compás presented by Sistema Cyprus as it joins forces with the Cyprus Chamber Orchestra.
This inspiring side by side performance is set for June 23 when more than 100 musicians from Sistema’s four orchestras will share the stage with 20 professional musicians. “This is not just a concert,” say organisers ahead of the one-night-only show, “it’s a fiesta of cultures, emotions and generations dancing together to the beat of music!”
On the evening, full-bodied sounds from a world repertoire will treat audiences to a unique experience. Some of the melodies that will be performed are Vivaldi’s Concerto for Two Mandolins, Elgar’s Cello Concerto, music from Russia, Spain, Portugal, Mexico and, of course, Cyprus. One of the concert’s highlights will be the piece Levant by Cypriot composer George Karvellos. On stage will be the artistic director and conductors Santiago Ossa Alzate and Angelo Lalla.
“Feel the energy of 160 children performing with seasoned professionals and witness the power of music to unite stories, backgrounds and cultures,” conclude organisers. “It is a celebration of growth, creativity and community spirit – one that will leave you moved and inspired.
