A purpose-driven, community-powered festival focused on shaping a zero-waste future will launch in Limassol on June 22 offering a variety of actions, with free admission. Organised by Zero Waste Alliance Cyprus, in collaboration with The Garage Community, and supported by Limassol Municipality, Lemesos 2030, and NetZeroCities, the festival will offer a fun and immersive experience with workshops and expert discussions, as well as a main event with a market implementing best practices around zero waste.

Some of the festival’s highlights include hands-on workshops and open discussions, a vintage market, a food and drinks area and a DJ to keep the energy high with music beats. Sunday’s main event will take place in the University Square.

The festival will serve as a case study, hopefully inspiring other festivals in Cyprus to celebrate sustainably by minimising waste. Through a deposit return system for reusable cups and trays and the availability of water refill stations, the event will demonstrate how celebrations can indeed avoid unnecessary waste.

Throughout the afternoon, workshops will run at different locations in central Limassol, in both English and Greek. The ‘Transforming food waste into wonder’ workshop will take place at Le Chat Kafeneio between 5pm and 6.30pm, showing children how to turn everyday food scraps into new plants.

The ‘Zero Waste Fermentation Workshop’ at Last Word Bar, also at 5pm will be a demo workshop on how to turn food scraps into probiotic treasures, while the ‘Food Composting: How & Why’ workshop will happen at Library Bar at 6pm.

The agenda also includes panel discussions: ‘Where does my trash go and why?’ at 5pm CUT Tassos Papadopoulos building (floor 1, room 1) in Greek and ‘Can fashion be sustainable?’ at 6.30pm at the same venue, in English. Before Sunday’s happening, the festival will kick off with an opening party on Saturday at Sto Dromo Bar to get everyone into the spirit.
