Solar panels are to be “immediately” installed at the Peyia municipal stadium’s car park, the Akamas municipality said.
The installation will cost a total of €456,350, with the panels set to be installed atop “specially designed shelters” above parking spaces.
The project is part of the European Union’s Prolightmed project, which, according to the EU, “is dedicated to promoting climate change adaptation by optimising and enhancing energy efficiency solutions for public lighting in the Euro-Med area”.
The Prolightmed project is funded by Interreg Euro-Med, the EU’s funding programme for infrastructure projects in and around the Mediterranean region which are developed and managed by public administrations, universities, and civil society organisations.
