A 32-year-old man who kicked a policewoman in the eye last Friday has been remanded in custody for three days by the Nicosia district court, police said on Tuesday.
The man was spotted with a head injury on Friday afternoon, on Archiepiskopos Leontios street in Nicosia, before an ambulance and the police arrived at the scene.
He was taken to the Nicosia general hospital’s A&E unit, while the cause of his injuries remains unknown.
Upon his arrival at the hospital, the man became agitated, began to scream and kicked a female police officer in the eye, causing mild swelling and bruising to her face.
A reported attempt to attack another patient present in the vehicle triggered a response from a different police officer, who deployed pepper spray to deter him.
The 32-year-old was arrested for assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest and was later re-arrested for living in Cyprus without the requisite residency documents.
He appeared before the Nicosia district court on Saturday, where a three-day remand order was issued against him.
A decision on the man’s charges is still pending.
