Ronald McDonald House® Charities (RMHC) Cyprus is preparing to accommodate even more families.
The island’s only guesthouse offering free accommodation, meals and support to families whose children are being treated for cancer, is expanding to enable even more families to remain together during their kids’ hospitalisation.
The expansion process is already under way and projected to be completed by mid-January 2026, with the total cost estimated at €270,000. The project includes the creation of four new fully-equipped rooms, the upgrading of the shared kitchen and laundry facilities, the addition of storage space, the development of a multipurpose room/workspace for parents and the improvement of energy efficiency through the installation of additional photovoltaic panels.
Since opening its doors on September 1, 2022, demand for rooms at the Nicosia guesthouse has been steadily increasing. This makes its expansion urgent and necessary, as waiting lists for accommodation grow by the day.

“The expansion of the House will ensure no family is left out due to the lack of available rooms. With the contribution of volunteers, donations and sponsors, the number of rooms will increase from 13 to 17, allowing 120 additional families each year to stay close to their hospitalised child,” stated Elena Andreou, Chair of the Board of RMHC Cyprus.
For her part, Georgia Kogkorozi, House Manager of RMHC Cyprus, added that the facilities aimed to provide true support and wellbeing to families. “At the House, the shared spaces are not just rooms. They are warm and safe places where families can connect, relax and draw strength, whether enjoying a meal, spending time in the play area or unwinding in the lounge,” she noted.
The ongoing operation and future expansion of Ronald McDonald House Cyprus rely heavily on the support of society. The needs for overnight stays, meals and family support remain high and for the Home to continue to operate fully, every contribution, large or small, is vital, as is the constant and growing involvement of volunteers.

Since its opening, Ronald McDonald House Cyprus has provided a safe and welcoming environment, offering support to families of hospitalised children, logging the following milestones:
- Provided 9,000+ overnight stays: RMHC Cyprus has provided thousands of nights of accommodation to families of hospitalised children.
- Served 800+ families: Hundreds of families have received support in times of crisis.
- Recorded 82 per cent average occupancy (2024): The high demand for rooms highlights the immediate need for expansion.
- Allowed €150 to be saved (per day): This is the minimum amount a family would have needed daily to stay close to their child without Ronald McDonald House Cyprus. RMHC Cyprus ensures this saving for each family by offering accommodation near the medical centre, meals and support.
- In all, €1.08 million saved: To date, families have saved more than €1.08 million in accommodation and meal costs.
About Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC):
RMHC is a non-profit organisation operating in more than 65 countries worldwide, offering programmes that directly enhance the health and wellbeing of children. In Cyprus, it was established in 2014, based in Nicosia, with a vision to improve the lives of families with hospitalised children by offering them support wherever and whenever they may need it.
With its timeless motto “Keeping Families Together”, in 2022 RMHC Cyprus inaugurated Ronald McDonald House in Nicosia. This was the organisation’s second project in Cyprus, and the first and only modern, high-standard guest house of its kind on the island. Since then, it has provided free accommodation to more than 800 families, amounting to over 9,000 overnight stays. With its upcoming expansion, it expects to embrace even more families in need.
