A fire broke out in the motor area of an electric bus in Paphos early Thursday, damaging the motor.

Transport Minister Alexis Vafeadis, later on Thursday, announced that all buses of the same model will be immobilised until inspections are completed.

The fire service said the bus was parked at a bus station in the Tombs of the Kings area.

Two fire engines were sent to put out the fire, which was placed under control at 1.08am.

An expert from abroad will arrive on the island on Saturday “to investigate the cause of the fire, while buses of the same type remain immobilised pending the completion of their inspections,” said Vafeadis, adding that those affected will be informed.
