The 7th BPW Mediterranean Symposium, titled “The Balance of Power: Gender, Economy, Leadership”, concluded with resounding success. Held in Nicosia on November 14–15, the symposium brought together women’s voices from across the business world in an experience filled with vision, passion, and inspiration. The event highlighted and reinforced the vital contribution of women to the economy and entrepreneurship throughout the Mediterranean region and beyond.

Sepaga proudly supported the symposium as a Platinum Sponsor, reaffirming its commitment to promoting initiatives that empower women’s role in the economy and innovation. True to its longstanding belief in workplace equality, the symposium provided an opportunity for further discussion on women’s representation in leadership positions.

The two-day event opened with welcome remarks from Ms. Mary Papadopoulou, President of BPW Cyprus, and Ms. Diana Barragán Medina, President of BPW International, followed by presentations from prominent business leaders on topics such as equality, women’s roles, and sustainability in the economy. The second day included greetings from Mr. Nicos Christodoulides, President of the Republic of Cyprus, as well as from distinguished business figures, while the sessions continued with thematic panels featuring women actively engaged in the economy and business sectors.

Elena Kontou, CEO of Sepaga, joined distinguished international leaders in a panel discussion on “Economic Equality and the Future of Women’s Participation in Finance, Innovation, and Politics.” Drawing from her extensive experience in digital payments and regulatory innovation, Ms. Kontou emphasized the role of FinTech as a catalyst for a more inclusive and accessible economic landscape, one that ensures equal access for women to financial tools, capital, and opportunities.

As Ms. Kontou stated: “At Sepaga, we see technology as a force that can remove barriers and create fairer systems. Empowering women through digital finance is not only the right thing to do, it is essential for sustainable economic transformation. Initiatives such as the BPW Mediterranean Symposium highlight the growing need for innovation, sustainability, and equality in the workplace and entrepreneurship”.

The symposium concluded with an elegant gala dinner, where participants renewed their commitment to continue the dialogue and reconvene next year.
