A 26-year-old man remained in critical condition on Friday following a stabbing outside a kiosk in Paphos on Wednesday.

He is being treated under sedation in the intensive care unit of a private hospital in Limassol.

The alleged attacker, a 58-year-old man, was arrested shortly after the incident. He appeared before the Paphos district court on Thursday, accompanied by his lawyer, Takis Simillides. The court issued an eight-day detention order, saying that investigators currently possess substantial evidence linking the suspect directly to the incident.

The incident occurred at approximately 6.15pm on Wednesday on a main road outside a kiosk in Konia. Police reports indicate that the confrontation may have been premeditated. Earlier that day, the victim’s former girlfriend reported that her vehicle tyres had been damaged, allegedly by the 26-year-old. The suspect, the woman’s father, later encountered the younger man outside the kiosk, where an argument escalated.

The 58-year-old reportedly drew a knife and stabbed the victim multiple times before fleeing the scene. Initial reports indicate that the victim first suffered wounds while seated in the driver’s seat. The alleged attacker then opened the front passenger door and continued the assault, causing injuries to multiple parts of the body.

The victim was first taken to the accident and emergency department of Paphos general hospital. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was transferred around 9pm to a private hospital in Limassol, where he remains under the care of a vascular surgeon.

Investigators from the Paphos CID are continuing to reconstruct the events leading to the attack. Case examiner Andronikos Tsappis said officers are collecting additional witness statements, examining telecommunications data, reviewing local security footage, and conducting several forensic and on-site inspections.

The case is being treated as attempted murder and stabbing, and no motive has been officially confirmed by authorities.
