Seven fans of Greek football side Paok FC were killed in Romania on Tuesday, while three other passengers are being treated in critical condition, after their van collided head-on with a lorry.
The fans were on their way to Lyon, France, for their team’s Europa League match.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis expressed his deep sorrow and assured the government and the Greek embassy in Romania were cooperating with local authorities to provide any assistance necessary.
The Greek foreign ministry said embassy personnel had immediately travelled to the scene of the accident.
A dashcam video of the accident showed the van overtaking, swerving and hitting the lorry.

The vans and buses transporting fans to European destinations choose to travel via Bulgaria, Romania and Hungary to avoid long waits at non-EU borders.
