The School of Arts, Media & Communication at UCLan Cyprus and its BA (Hons) Fashion Design programme continue to reinforce their leadership in creative education through a new initiative connecting secondary and higher education with the professional fashion industry.

During their visit to the University’s premises, where they attended our specialised fashion workshops, students from the Technical Schools of Nicosia, Limassol and Larnaca, all with fashion-related directions, were invited to participate in a special Fashion competition. They were led by the academic team of the University’s Fashion Design programme, designed to identify and promote emerging talent.

The winning student will be awarded an exceptional opportunity: to participate and present their work in the UCLan Cyprus Fashion Show at the Athens Fashion Week 2026.

From classroom to international runway

This initiative demonstrates the School’s and the Fashion Design programme’s strong industry integration and their commitment to offering meaningful, real-world opportunities that extend beyond academic boundaries.

Participation in Athens Fashion Week provides invaluable exposure to designers, buyers, media professionals and fashion stakeholders at an international level. By opening this platform not only to its own students, but also to Technical School students, the School and the programme actively support talent development across the broader educational ecosystem of Cyprus.

The message is clear: creativity deserves visibility, and higher education can be the bridge that transforms potential into professional presence.

Strengthening educational ecosystem

By inviting Technical School students to compete for a place in an international fashion showcase, the School of Arts, Media & Communication at UCLan Cyprus reinforces:

  • The smooth transition from secondary to higher education
  • Early engagement with university-level facilities and expertise
  • Mentorship and guidance from experienced academic professionals and fashion designers
  • Access to established industry networks

Such initiatives reflect a wider vision: collaboration rather than separation between educational levels, and opportunity rather than limitation for young creatives.

A School with strong industry DNA

The School of Arts, Media & Communication is distinguished by its dynamic relationship with the creative industries. Across its programmes, including Fashion Design, Media Production, Graphic Design and Web Design & Development, students benefit from:

  • Active professional collaborations
  • International showcases and exhibitions
  • Live industry briefs
  • Exposure to real-world creative environments

The opportunity to present work at Athens Fashion Week is the outcome of sustained professional partnerships and a curriculum grounded in contemporary industry practice, developed by the programme’s distinguished and talented academic team.

Positioning Cyprus’ future designers on world stage

This competition is more than an event; it is a statement of intent. UCLan Cyprus invests in talent, builds platforms for visibility and empowers the next generation of designers to step confidently into the professional arena.

For aspiring fashion designers seeking international exposure, industry connectivity and a forward-thinking academic environment, the BA (Hons) Fashion Design programme at the UCLan Cyprus continues to set the benchmark in Cyprus.
