The first phase of the pioneering corporate social responsibility programme “Esso Safe Vision”, implemented by eWise Cyprus Ltd – Esso Branded Supplier, has been successfully completed, delivering notable and, above all, practical results, with a total of 235 drivers participating.

Over the course of seven initiatives, free optometric screenings were carried out for drivers at selected Esso service stations across Cyprus. The campaign confirmed the need for increased vision screening among drivers as part of the broader effort to prevent road traffic accidents.

Specifically, the results showed that 46 per cent of the drivers examined have good vision and drive safely without requiring any correction, while 43 per cent have adequate vision, but require minor yet essential corrective adjustments. The most concerning finding is that 11 per cent of those examined do not meet the basic visual safety criteria. This equates to approximately one in nine drivers operating a vehicle with insufficient vision, often without being aware of it, thereby posing a risk both to themselves and to others.

The key conclusion of the initiative therefore highlights the need for more frequent vision checks before drivers take the wheel, as good eyesight is a critical factor in preventing road traffic accidents.

The programme was implemented at the initiative of eWise Cyprus – Esso Branded Supplier, under the auspices of the Cyprus Police (Traffic Department), in collaboration with the Cyprus Optical Council. Equipment is provided by A. Potamitis Medicare.

With prevention and the reduction of road traffic accidents as its guiding principle, eWise Cyprus is expanding the “Esso Safe Vision” programme in 2026. The schedule for visits by the mobile optometry unit to Esso service stations is as follows:
