An ancient Cypriot jug has been repatriated from the United States, after being handed over to the Cypriot embassy in Washington DC, the antiquities department announced on Tuesday.

The antiquity itself dates between 600 and 480 BC.

The antiquity was identified in an online auction by officers monitoring illegal trafficking of Cypriot antiquities and was withdrawn following consultation with the auction house.

“We express our gratitude to Kleinfelter’s Auction Inc. and the possessor for the voluntary return of the vessel, as well as to the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Washington for their cooperation and coordination of the repatriation process,” the department added.
