Five people were arrested for various offences during coordinated overnight operations across Cyprus, police said on Wednesday.

The arrests were made as part of increased patrols in urban areas aimed at preventing crime, maintaining public order and improving public safety.

Offences included illegal possession of property and assault on police officers.

Officers stopped 435 vehicles and checked 518 drivers and passengers.

They also carried our 24 inspections of premises, issuing four complaints for violations of operating permit conditions.

Traffic enforcement resulted in 196 complaints, including 93 for speeding.

Police conducted 72 alcohol tests, with one driver testing positive, and nine drug tests, four of which were positive.

Four vehicles were seized during the checks.
