The inaugural Open House Nicosia event took place successfully in the capital over the weekend of April 18-19, 2026.

Opening the doors of 39 buildings across Nicosia, with free guided tours by more than 155 volunteers, the public was given the opportunity to explore architecturally significant buildings in nine areas of the city, including the city centre, Kato Deftera, Agios Dometios, Strovolos and Engomi, among others. In its first year, the event recorded more than 5,000 visits, while the architectural walking tours organised as part of the two-day programme attracted over 100 participants.

Among the buildings featured in this year’s programme were Nicosia Town Hall, House of Hadjigeorgakis Kornesios, The Landmark Nicosia, the Library and the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Cyprus, SIX Residences, Omeriye Hammam, the building of the Cyprus Theatre Organisation, 360 Nicosia, the Cyprus Museum, Olympic House and Park, Severios Library, as well as private buildings such as 0410 Building and Case Oblivio, along with other equally noteworthy structures, each offering a different perspective on how Nicosia lives, works and evolves.

The initiative was organised by the NGO Voices of the City-Open House Nicosia and held under the auspices of the Municipality of Nicosia, with the support of the Cyprus Scientific and Technical Chamber (ETEK), the Cyprus Architects Association (SAA) and Visit Nicosia. Sponsors of the event included bbf:, m2quare, AN.C, Candela Lightings, Phanos N. Epiphaniou, HadjiKyriakos & Sons, LLPO, Muskita, Storyprints and Asepa Trading Ltd. Media sponsor was the magazine INBusiness.

Special thanks are extended to Nicosia Mayor Charalambos Prountzos, who addressed attendees at the opening event and contributed through his presence to the promotion and support of the initiative.

Additional thanks are extended to the public for embracing Open House Nicosia, to all who have contributed to the organisation of the event, to the institutional representatives who attended, to the sponsors and, most importantly, to the volunteers who constituted the heart of the initiative.
