Home Affairs Funds Monitoring Committees’ 4th meeting yields progress report, next steps

The fourth meeting of the Monitoring Committees for the Home Affairs Funds 2021–2027 was held on June 8, 2026. The meeting was organised by the Directorate of European Funds of the Ministry of the Interior, in its capacity as the Managing Authority for the Funds.

Interior Minister Constantinos Ioannou, Justice Minister Costas Fytiris, Deputy Minister for Migration and International Protection Nicholas Ioannides and Director of the Directorate of European Funds Constantinos Kyprianou addressed the gathering, attended by European Commission representatives, competent authorities and members of the Monitoring Committees.

During the meeting, participants were presented with an update on the implementation of the Home Affairs Funds programmes, which support actions in the areas of security, border management, migration and integration. To date, 95 projects are being implemented, while the total funding approved for the Republic of Cyprus under the 2021–2027 programming period amounts to €480 million, including national co-financing.

In his address, Interior Minister Ioannou, underscored the importance of the effective management of European funding, noting that “our key priority remains the optimum utilisation and maximum possible absorption of the funds allocated by the European Commission to the Republic of Cyprus”, with the aim of advancing policies that respond to both national needs and European priorities.

For his part, Director of the Directorate of European Funds Kyprianou described the meeting as an important milestone in assessing the progress of the programmes, stressing that “developments in the areas of migration, security and the management of the external borders make continuous adaptation, effective coordination and the targeted use of available European funding more essential than ever”.

Particular reference was also made to the Republic of Cyprus’ preparations for the implementation of the European Union’s new Pact on Migration and Asylum, as well as to the planning of the next programming period, 2028–2034, during which a significant increase in European funding available to the country is expected.

The meeting reaffirmed the importance of close cooperation between the national authorities and European institutions in ensuring the effective implementation of policies that strengthen security, migration management and social cohesion, while also contributing to the establishment of a robust framework to prepare for the challenges and opportunities of the next programming period.
