An accident on the motorway just outside Nicosia caused congestion on Monday morning in the direction of Limassol.

The police said the accident was between the junction of Limassol avenue and Athalassa avenue, and the exit for Athalassa.

Drivers were being urged to be particularly careful and patient.

Shortly afterwards, the right lane on the motorway from Larnaca to Nicosia, just after the Rizoelia roundabout, was closed due to an accident involving one vehicle.

The road was reopened at around 12.33pm.

A third accident after midday happened on the Limassol-Nicosia motorway, causing the Ayios Georgios Alamanou exit to Nicosia to close.

The police said the accident caused a large quantity of gravel from a lorry to spill onto the road.
