July was overall moderate in temperatures, apart from 11 days during which temperatures exceeded 43C in Nicosia, the meteorological department told the Cyprus Mail on Thursday.

“It was not a record month,” the department said.

The highest temperature of 43.2C was recorded at the Athalassa station in Nicosia on July 23, while the average temperature at the station stood at 38.6C for the month.

The second highest average temperature of 34.6C was recorded in Polis Chrysochous, with a maximum temperature of 38.5C recorded on July 23.

Larnaca airport station reached the third highest average temperature at 34C, with a peak of 38.2C recorded on July 30.

Meanwhile, the highest minimum temperature was recorded in Prodromos, where temperatures reached a maximum of 21.7C and a minimum of 12.9C, resulting in an average of 18.2C for July.

Polis Chrysochous ranged slightly above Prodromos, recording a lowest average temperature of 22.8C. There, the highest and lowest temperature stood at 25.3C and 20.4C respectively.

Overall, the stations in Larnaca and Athalassa recorded their nineth highest mean maximum temperatures since 1976 and 1983 respectively.

The station in Prodromos, meanwhile, recorded its 27th highest mean maximum temperature since 1959, reaching a peak of 28.2C.
