A 28-year-old man has been arrested in Paphos in connection with suspected burglaries and the possession of burglary tools, police said on Friday.

The arrest followed a police operation in the early hours of Thursday aimed at preventing burglaries and thefts in the area.

Officers monitoring a residential area spotted the man entering the gardens of homes and behaving suspiciously.

He tried to flee when he saw police but was stopped and arrested for unlawful entry.

A search found burglary tools on him, while further tools, cash and a quantity of drugs were found in his vehicle.

Police said the man is also suspected of involvement in a burglary and theft reported in the Paphos district on November 18, 2025, and an attempted burglary on May 21, 2026.

He appeared before Paphos District Court on Thursday, which ordered that he be held for five days. Investigations are continuing at Peyia police station.
