Six people were arrested during coordinated police operations carried out across Cyprus on Monday night as part of efforts to prevent serious crime, maintain public order and strengthen public safety.

According to a police statement, the arrests concerned cases involving illegal possession of drugs, illegal stay in the Republic, begging and other offences.

During the operations, police stopped and checked 639 drivers and 241 passengers, while 45 premises were inspected, resulting in 19 reports.

Traffic checks carried out at the same time led to 210 reports for various offences, while nine additional traffic-related cases are under investigation.

Of the 210 traffic reports, 72 concerned speeding.

Police also impounded nine vehicles.

A total of 145 alcohol tests were carried out, resulting in eight reports for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Police said crime prevention and enforcement operations would continue on a daily basis, with an increased police presence, targeted checks and immediate operational action aimed at protecting the public and maintaining order.
