Cypriot tennis has won its first ever Mediterranean Games medal, with Lefteris Neos and Melios Efstathiou taking bronze in the men’s doubles.
The Cypriot pair secured the historic result after beating Malta’s Alex De Gabriele and Liam Delicata 2 1 in the third-place match.
Neos and Efstathiou lost the opening set 3 6 but fought back to win the second 6 3. They then sealed the match 10 6 in the deciding tie break.
The Cyprus Tennis Federation congratulated the two players, highlighting their more than decade long commitment to Cyprus’s national teams.
The federation also praised coaches Dimitris Herodotou and Yiannos Hadjigeorgiou for their guidance, as well as the Cyprus Olympic Committee for supporting the Cypriot delegation.
