Low pressure is expected to affect Cyprus from Wednesday, bringing rain, thunderstorms and a gradual drop in temperatures, the Met Office said on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, increased cloud cover will be observed at intervals, with isolated rain or a thunderstorm expected during the afternoon, mainly over the mountains and possibly inland.

Winds will blow mainly from the southwest to northwest, light to moderate at 3 to 4 Beaufort, gradually strengthening to 5 Beaufort along exposed coasts. The sea will be slight.

Temperatures will rise to around 30C inland and on the southern and eastern coasts, 28C on the western and northern coasts and 19C in the higher mountains.

Cloud cover will remain locally increased at intervals overnight. Winds will become downslope and light at 3 Beaufort, while the sea will generally be calm to slight, remaining slight locally in the west.

Temperatures will fall to 17C inland, around 20C on the coasts and 11C in the higher mountains.

From Wednesday through Friday, conditions will be cloudy at intervals, with local rain and isolated thunderstorms, mainly after midday. Hail may also fall during thunderstorms.

The weather on Friday could become intense or prolonged in some areas.

Temperatures will gradually fall through Friday, dropping below the seasonal average.
