Driver arrested for driving offences, family members assault police officer

Arrest

Larnaca police on Sunday afternoon arrested a man in connection with traffic offences while family members attacked a police officer.

According to a police statement, officers signaled for a driver to stop his car on a road in Larnaca at around 4pm but the 38-year-old driver failed to comply and drove on.

The vehicle was later located parked nearby, outside the residence of a 45-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman who are related to the driver.

When they noticed the presence of police officers they allegedly came out into the street and attacked one of the officers.

The 38-year-old who was also at the scene was arrested and taken to a police station where he refused to be tested for drugs and alcohol.

He will appear in court later on Monday.

The 45-year-old and the 18-year-old are expected to be charged with assaulting a police officer.
