Attempt to steal €74,000 thwarted

Handcuffs 03

Larnaca police on Thursday thwarted the attempt of an employee to steal more than €74,000 from a company.

At around 4pm, the owner of a Larnaca-based company reported to police that a little earlier a 40-year-old employee informed him €74,065 had been stolen from the premises.

He told his employer that when he arrived at the company around 3.20pm, he found the offices had been disturbed and the door to the offices at the back of the building was open.

When he was questioned by police the employee repeated what he had told his employer.

However, after officers who searched the scene found the money in a company car he changed his tune and admitted he had stolen the money, police said.

The 40-year-old suspect was arrested and is expected to be remanded on Friday.
