Arrested drunk driver also carrying weapons, duty free stuff

A 39-year-old man has been arrested after he was stopped by the traffic police driving under the influence of both drugs and alcohol, in addition to having a weapon and a hunting gun in his car.

According to the police, at about 4.30 on Saturday afternoon stopped the man’s car as he was driving it without plates.

The man, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was also given an alcotest, which showed 89μg, whereas the allowed limit is 22μg. A narcotest also came up positive.

An investigation of his vehicle which followed found a hunting gun, a knife and a bat, after which he was arrested.

Eighteen pairs of shoes and two boxes of cigarettes which did not have their duty paid were also found in the car, for which he agreed to a fine of €160.

He was charged in writing for the other offences to be called to court at a later date.
