Woman arrested driving five times over the alcohol limit

A woman was arrested after driving with five times the allowed limit of alcohol in her blood, police announced on Sunday.

According to police, members of the traffic police stopped the 42-year-old woman on a street in Famagusta at 8.10 on Saturday night.

An initial test showed she had been drinking while a second test recorded a blood alcohol level of 119μg, five times over the allowed limit of 22μg.

She was charged in writing and is expected to appear before a court soon.

“Driving under the influence of alcohol is one of the most serious traffic offences as it is among the leading causes of fatal traffic accidents,” a police announcement said.
