Coronavirus: north locks down in Kyrenia and Nicosia

Turkish Cypriot ‘health minister’ Ali Pilli announced on Tuesday a ban on internal travel in the north, which will prevent Kyrenia and Nicosia leaving their cities.

According to Turkish Cypriot media, Pilli said that currently 264 people are receiving medical treatment for coronavirus, 76 of whom are being treated in a specialised centre. Five people are in intensive care.

“Increasing the measures is the only way to control the pandemic,” Pilli told Turkish Cypriot newspaper Kibris Postasi. “Only with such measures we can hope to improve the situation.”

He added that more details would be announced later on Tuesday.
