Coronavirus: Record number of people booked for violations

Police carried out a record number of checks for breaches of coronavirus measures in the 24 hours leading up to Monday morning and for the first time booked more than 200 people as a result.

The total number of checks was 12,885, up from the previous record of 12,842 which was recorded on January 26.

A total of 220 individuals and two business owners were fined.

The checks by district:

Nicosia: 3,394, 71 booked

Limassol: 4,612, 70 individuals, two business owners booked

Larnaca: 1,043, 13 booked

Paphos: 1,187, 28 booked

Famagusta: 1,220, 14 booked

Morphou: 845, 4 booked

Traffic police conducted 550 inspections and fined 17 people, and the rapid response unit booked three while checking 28.

Marine police contributed with 78 checks but recorded no illegalities.
