Vaccination of the enclaved people in the Karpasia villages started on Monday with doses sent to the occupied area by the Republic, President Commissioner Photis Photiou said.

Photiou said that with the help of Unficyp, a number of vaccines was delivered on Monday morning to the nurse living in the Karpasia area Andreas Sinainos, who transferred them to Riszokarpaso where the vaccinations took place. The vaccines were transferred in a special carrier to preserve the low temperature they need to be stored in.

Photiou added that procedures were underway also for the vaccination of the enclaved living in the Maronite villages but also of enclaved people who are now in the government-controlled areas, “due to the situation as regards crossings.”

The latter remain in the south due to the obligatory 10-day quarantine they need to undergo once crossing to the north before they are allowed by the Turkish Cypriot authorities to go to their homes. People crossing to the north are called to cover the cost of their quarantine, reportedly €45 per day.
