Arrest after driver collides with four vehicles

Police in Limassol on Monday arrested a man wanted for various offences after he collided with four vehicles while trying to escape.

At around 11am, police officers spotted a car which had been reported stolen being driven by a 26-year-old man in Ayios Athanasios, Limassol.

They identified the driver as a man who was wanted for car thefts as well as causing malicious damage, crimes committed in the Nicosia district.

The officers followed the car and signalled for the driver to stop but he sped away.

While he tried to get away, he collided with two parked vehicles, jumped a red light, and, after veering onto the wrong side of the road, collided with to other cars, one driven by a 35-year-old man and the other by a 76-year-old woman.

He then stopped, got out of the car and tried to escape on foot but was stopped and arrested by the police officers.

Both the arrested man and the 76-year-old woman were taken to Limassol hospital where the woman received first aid and was discharged.

The 26-year-old was diagnosed with a fractured collarbone and various bruises. He was kept under guard in the hospital where he is being treated for his injuries.
