Cancelled carnival: Venice’s muted nod to pre-Lent revels

We travel to Venice for a look at its muted nod to carnival this year, in lieu of the ordinarily lavish annual celebrations.

Cancelled in 2021 as part of Italy’s efforts to control the spread of Covid-19, the yearly pre-Lenten festival, culminating in costumes and parades, will be marked only by a handful of locals on February 16.
