Coronavirus: More than 11,000 checks, 203 booked

As part of the ongoing attempt to curb the spread of the coronavirus police booked 203 individuals for violations of various decrees during 24 hours from Sunday until Monday morning.

They carried out 11,037 checks in total, 2,538 in Nicosia, 2,726 in Limassol, 1,561 in Larnaca, 1,224 in Paphos, 1,327 in Famagusta and 1,039 in the Morphou district.

Nearly half of the 203 persons were booked in the Limassol district where 100 persons were caught flouting measures.

On Sunday afternoon, officers found a café in Limassol was open and twelve people were watching football inside.

The manager was fined €750 and each of the customers €300.

In Nicosia 27 individuals were fined, in Larnaca 21, in Paphos 19, in Famagusta 7 and in Morphou 12.

Traffic police conducted an additional 505 inspections, the rapid response unit 80 and marine police 37.
