Coronavirus: one death, 143 new cases announced on Wednesday (Updated)

The health ministry on Wednesday announced one death and 143 new cases of Covid-19 from 26,603 PCR and rapid tests, a positivity rate of 0.54 per cent.

The death concerned and 86-year-old woman with underlying conditions who died at Limassol hospital. Total deaths now stand at 231 while the average age remains at 79.

There are 81 people in hospitals of whom 25 are in serious condition. Eleven patients are intubated.

Forty-nine of the new cases concern contact tracing while another two were among samples taken during the tracing of secondary contacts.

Another 12 cases were people who got tested privately and four concern samples processed in state hospitals’ labs.

Two more cases were people who got rapid tests in private labs while 74 were people found positive during the rapid testing carried out on behalf of the health ministry in all districts.

Most cases, 51, were recorded in the Limassol district with a positivity rate of 0.65 per cent. Seven cases were recorded in Nicosia (0.08 per cent), 11 in Larnaca (0.33 per cent), three in the Famagusta district (0.30 per cent) and one in Paphos (0.05per cent). There was also one case detected a the Ypsonas industrial area.

In total 33,710 cases have been recorded in Cyprus so far.
