Apoel are commemorating the 200-year anniversary of the Greek War of Independence with a special event.

Specifically, the Nicosia club’s swimming and water polo departments are conducting a swimming marathon totalling up to 200 kilometres in length, one kilometre per year since 1821.

The marathon will take place on March 25 at the Pascal English School in Nicosia and is open to everyone wanting to take part. Participants can swim any distance they choose to and will be joined by Apoel’s swimming and water polo athletes.

The objective is for everyone taking part to contribute to the total 200 kilometre overall distance.

People who take part in the event can choose their slots and distance they would like to cover.

It is a prerequisite that all participants register at the event’s website (found below) and that everyone respects the relevant health and safety guidelines prepared specifically for the event.

Entry to the event costs €10 with all proceeds going to Pavlos Kontides’ #TowardsTokyo Athletic Responsibility activity as well as the Little Volunteers charity club who aim to support the children’s surgery ward of the Makarios hospital in Nicosia.

All details on the event can be found here: http://www.1821swim2021.com
