The average age of patients at Famagusta Covid hospital is 64, with the youngest one receiving treatment at the moment being 17, its director said Tuesday.

On Monday there were 145 patients being treated for the virus in state hospitals, 25 in serious or critical condition. Fifteen of those patients were intubated.

Famagusta general hospital Amalia Hadjiyianni said there has been a steady rise in the past five days, with 10 to 12 admissions each day.

The hospital was treating 70 patients on Monday, three in the high dependency unit.

The average age of patients at the hospital is 64, with the youngest being 17 and the oldest 82.

Those who end up in hospital usually need IV treatment and oxygen, Hadjiyianni said.

“All ages are susceptible to infection,” she said, and people should contact their GP as soon as possible if infected, so that they start their treatment before it gets worse.

Cyprus has recently eased restrictions, which were put in place to contain the second wave of the virus, and was looking at relaxing them further though infections appear to be on the rise once more.
