Zaatar Manakish – Levantine flatbread topped with olive oil and herbs

In this video we learn how to make delicious Levantine Zaatar Manakish from scratch.

Zaatar Manakish consists of a simple dough base, topped with an olive oil-based zaatar spread. The zaatar itself is a Middle-Eastern spice blend, primarily made with sumac, thyme and sesame seeds.

The flatbread is often served for breakfast or lunch in the countries of the Levant, and there are three popular types: zaatar manakish as in this recipe, cheese manakish and lamb manakish. They’re are all founded on the same base, only with different toppings.
