A 16-year-old Limassol girl who had been reported by her family as missing was arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of possessing stolen property.

Police said they located the girl in the Polemidia area with a bag full of jewellery and other valuables, €1,130 in cash and €136 in coins.

The 16-year-old could not provide officers with a convincing explanation regarding the provenance of the valuables after which she was detained.

Police said they later determined that some of the items found in her possession had been stolen from a house in Polemidia, which had been broken into during the night. Other items had been reported stolen from a car in the same area.

The teenager was arrested while police were trying to track down the source of the rest of the property found in her possession.
