The Cabinet, chaired by the President Nicos Anastasiades, is meeting from 9.30am to take final decisions regarding possible new relaxations of the restrictive measures to curb the spread of the coronavirus in Cyprus. The decisions will be announced at 11.30 am by Minister of Health Constantinos Ioannou.

The decisions for possible new relaxations were discussed during a meeting of the Cabinet last Wednesday, but the announcements were postponed, taking into account the increased cases of the last days but also the increased number of hospitalized patients.

The Ministry of Health announced on Thursday that 185 patients were receiving treatment in state hospitals, 36 of whom in a serious condition. Out of the 36 patients who are in a critical condition, 16 were intubated. In the Famagusta General Hospital there are currently 70 patients receiving treatment, 47 in the Nicosia General Hospital, 63 in the Limassol General Hospital and 5 in the Makarios Hospital in Nicosia.

As the Spokesperson of State Health Services Organisation (OKYPY) Charalambos Charilaou told CNA, within ten days the number of patients with Covid in hospitals has doubled, compared to the number of patients treated at the end of February.

Members of the Advisory Scientific Committee for Covid-19, will hold at 12.30 a press conference, where the national report on Covid-19 will be presented.
