The five pensioners who died from coronavirus over the last four days had not been vaccinated, the health ministry said on Tuesday.

Following the death of five people over 80 due to coronavirus, the health ministry said they had refused to receive the Covid vaccine.

The deaths concern that of a 95-year-old woman with underlying health conditions who was being treated at Limassol general hospital on Sunday, a man aged 91 with underlying conditions who died at the Nicosia General Hospital on Saturday and two others, an 82-year-old woman, and a man, 90, with underlying health problems who died on Monday. A 90-year-old man died on Tuesday at Limassol general hospital.

Cyprus has carried out 131,623 vaccinations up to Sunday, including 37,109 who received both doses. The country’s vaccination plan prioritises health professionals, the elderly and those belonging in vulnerable groups.

Vaccinations are completed for those aged 67 and over.
