The health of Limassol Bishop Athanasios, who tested on Tuesday positive for coronavirus during the weekly rapid tests given at the bishopric, is improving, the bishopric said on Friday.

According to a statement released by the Limassol Holy Diocese, the bishop’s condition is stable, even though he still needs medical attention.

“Based on the latest medical information we received from the bishop’s team of physicians, his health is improving smoothly and he is receiving the appropriate treatment at the Nicosia general hospital,” the statement said.

It added that he will remain in hospital until the completion of the medical treatment he is currently receiving. He presented no symptoms when testing positive to Covid-19.

The Holy Diocese of Limassol expressed its gratitude to the medical and nursing staff of the Nicosia hospital “for the exemplary and responsible attitude with which they have treated the bishop, as well as all other patients with coronavirus in this difficult period.”
