Sunday afternoon live music shows continue in Paphos

power of jazz trio

Paphos residents are enjoying an array of live music events as the Paphos Sessions, a series of Sunday performances, bring some of the island’s most acclaimed bands and duos to the Hogshead Pub.

After the success of Trio Frisson at the first Paphos Session and the sell-out show with The Zilla Project, Paphos Music Lovers have announced that the series of jazz, blues and world music concerts has been extended until the end of May. Two more performances remain for April with Rumba Attack performing on Sunday 18 and Avant Tout Duo on Sunday 25.

Commencing next month’s performances is the Triple Soul band on May 9 playing groovy soul, Motown, jazz and funk. The trio’s vocalist George Kalopedis is a unique singer in Cyprus, coming from the tradition of male soul and jazz vocalists including Marvin Gaye, Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby and Nat King Cole which audiences will hear in the afternoon session.

Next will be a blues performance with the classical line-up: guitar, bass and drums playing blues and classic rock. The Real Thing Blues band will take to the pub’s stage on May 16, starting at 5pm. The band members, Andrey Stareyshinski, Nikolay Gergov and Ruslan Dobrikov, are professional musicians able to play any style of music but the blues and classic rock are their passion. Their set will feature classic guitar blues.

What follows on the Paphos Sessions agenda are some jazzy piano tunes as the Power of Jazz Piano Trio perform their set. Loukas Louka on piano, Omiros Andreou on double bass and Philipp Psillides on drums will play from Bill Evans to Oscar Peterson on May 23. The jazz pianists have formed trios to express the full melodic and harmonic power of the piano.

The final band for May is a new group that has only done a handful of performances on the island. Candy Soul is the result of four musicians coming together to play a blend of Soul, Pop and Jazz. They will head to the Hogshead Pub on May 30 to introduce their sound to the west coast.
