A 32-year-old man, the main suspect for the murder of a woman whose body was found last month in a field in the Athienou buffer zone, has confessed to killing her, police confirmed on Tuesday.

The suspect told investigators he killed the woman in his apartment, during a fight. No more information was available on when this took place. The 32-year-old is believed to have been the woman’s partner.

The body was found on March 23 in a field in Athienou. Police believe the body belongs to a Ukrainian woman who was working in Cyprus.

The crime is believed to have taken place around five months prior to the body’s discovery. The body was said to have been initially kept hidden in a septic tank of an empty building in Nicosia before being moved to Athienou, just before it was found.

Another two men, 31 and 36, were held for the same case. They are believed to have assisted the 32-year-old move the body.
