Vaults of nature: the freerunning feats of Sydney Olson

If you have ever been inspired by those intense, on-foot chases in action films, where heroes and villains vault over rooftops and swing across urban landscapes relying only on flexibility, strength and agility, you may have heard of the related extreme sport crazes of parkour and freerunning.

Developed from military obstacle course training, parkour features running, swinging, jumping and climbing from point A to B, while racing the clock. Freerunning is similar, but emphasises the more ‘performative’ side of parkour, with fancy flips and stylistic acrobatics thrown into the mix.

In this video, we watch as 28-year-old professional freerunner Sydney Olson goes through an array of herculean leaps, vaults, twists and landings, in a mash-up of all the ways her amazing skills help her defy gravity and keep the cheers coming from her 121,000 Instagram fans.

The pro athlete captured first place at the Red Bull Art of Motion 2019 and Skill and Style NAPC 2019 competitions, and is also a registered movie stuntwoman.
