A new platform has gone live featuring Cypriot artists, curators and art historians under the age of 40 who live and work abroad. Launched by the Lefteris Economou Cultural Foundation, interartcy is a digital archive of young creatives and it aims to promote, support, and project cultural creativity through various forms of artistic expression.

“Artists often deal with the preservation and promotion of their artworks individually, through their personal websites or social media pages,” writes researcher and visual artist Myrto Theocharidou. “However, the establishment of an online database presents an overview of the contemporary artistic production by Cypriots living abroad.”

Ιnterartcy features the work and the professional profiles of Cypriot creatives who are based outside Cyprus and are active within the broader contemporary artistic field. The result is this online platform still in progress, which is continuously updated by the research team but also through the recommendations and suggestions of the creators featured in it.

Though still in its early days, the digital archive features artists from the US, the UK, the United Arab Emirates, the Netherlands, Finland, Canada and more. The platform can act as a form of search engine to find the contact details of participating artists and their audio-visual material. On the platform’s homepage, artists can be searched for either by country, art category or name. The project is ongoing with frequent updates and changes as it targets on making these artists more widely known to the general public in Cyprus, and to constitute a tool for further communication.

“Interartcy,” comments independent curator Demetra Ignatiou, “aspires not only to provide a tool for promotion and networking but to actively and positively impact the evolution and advancement of young Cypriot artistic and theoretical production, allowing and mediating synergies, collaborations and exchanges.”
