Polis Chrysochous received very limited visits during the Easter period, but business owners are expecting to reopen in the coming week, mayor Yiotis Papachristophi said on Wednesday.

This year, local authorities are launching a new campaign to showcase Polis Chrysochous and the surrounding area in order to attract more visitors, Papachristophi told the Cyprus News Agency.

He added that he believes the area “will be embraced by Cypriot visitors and beyond, just like last year”.

As a tourist area, Polis has experienced lots of difficulties and problems during the pandemic, he said, adding that “we wish for our businesses to reopen so that we can return to normal”.

The community leader called on the public to adhere to coronavirus measures and arrange to be vaccinated as soon as they can, saying that he himself has been vaccinated.

The goal is for Polis Chrysochous to be established as a “green” zone in pandemic terms, and not “red,” to send a message that the area is open to visitors, he concluded.
